MicroNeedling Questions

What is MD Pen?
MD Pen is used by your practitioner to perform microdermal needling- a new, non-ablative skin regeneration therapy. MD Pen delivers real results in less time and with discomfort than more aggressive, high-energy treatments.

How does the MD Pen help to improve the skin’s appearance?
MD Pen rapidly creates a pattern of micro channels in the treatment area. These micro channels significantly increase the production of collagen and elastin to leave skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform. Micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb medical grade topical, like anti-aging serums and skin lighteners, when applied during or immediately after the procedure by a practitioner. New collagen, elastin, and capillaries are formed, leading to the reduction of scars and discolored tissue, and to the enhancement of your skin for a smother, firmer, and younger look.

How does an MD Pen treatment feel?
As a technician lightly pressed and glides an activated MD Pen across your skin, treatment sensations can vary. Most MD Pen patients have reported the treatment to be well-tolerated and to feel like sandpaper moving across the skin.

Will I bleed?
The manner in which the MD Pen penetrates the skin will depend on your level of treatment. It is possible to see some pinpoint bleeding that will end shortly after the treatment session.

How long will it take to complete a treatment?
A full face and neck anti-aging treatment is normally completed with 20 to 40 minutes. Other skin condition treatment times will vary depending on the size and number of the area(s) being treated.

How many treatments should I have?
Depending on your treatment goals and your skin condition, you may decide to have a single treatment, or the practitioner may advise you to have a series of four to eight treatments spaced two to six weeks apart.

How will my skin feel after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment your skin may be sensitive to touch and appear red or flushed, similar to a moderate sunburn. Usually, within four to six hours, redness and sensitivity will diminish, and within 24 hours the micro channels will feel healed. Normally, after two to three days, the redness and sensitivity will end, allowing a new, radiant complexion to shine through.

Is there any downtime?
MD Pen treatments do not cause the same trauma to the skin as laser or IPL treatments, so there is no downtime. It may cause only minimal discomfort. Sun sensitivity is also less of an issue.

Are there any side effects?
MD Pen microdermal needling does not involve injections; therefore, regardless of race or color, our clients have shown no adverse skin reactions or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

How do I take care of my skin after the treatment?
Internal and external hydration of the skin is essential. Drink lots of water and carefully follow the skin care regimen prescribed by your practitioner.
